Since the release of the VGMAs 2017 nominees list, many have raised questions as to why some songs have been nominated in certain categories.
Others have also asked why some artists were nominated with particular songs.
One that has really grabbed some attention is that of Sarkodie.
Many have asked why he was nominated for a song he featured on, Fire Bon Dem Remix. Others asked if indeed Sarkodie and his management filed for a nomination with that song or not.
Well, that’s exactly where the ignorance on the part of many sets in. Well, for you reading this piece, I believe you wish to know more that’s why you are reading from vibehubs.com.
Before the VGMA 2017 nominees list was released, we wrote an article titled“Before You Goof, Check Out The New Category Definitions for the 2017 Ghana Music Awards”.
In this article, we shared the various category definitions so most we could be well informed and not to goof on radio or elsewhere but it seems that’s exactly what most people I’m reading from on social media are doing.
Many have asked why Sarkodie grabbed a nomination for Best Rapper of the year with “Fire Bon Dem Remix“, a song that belongs to Flowking Stone.
Now under the reviewed category definition for Best Rapper of The Year under the 2017 VGMA Awards, the Best Rapper of the Year is defined as;
“The Best Rapper of the year is adjudged by the Academy, Board and the General Public as the rap Artiste with the best word compositions, rhymes and rap dexterity on a popular song released in the year under review.”
Now, per this description, one does not necessarily need to own the song to grab a nomination for his verse on it.
If for anything, the question should be whether Sarkodie’s rap on that particular song merits the nomination or since the artist had equally great rap songs in the year under review.
Now, before you goof again on any other category, Check the category definitions for all the categories from below.
