SXSW, one of the biggest interactive music and film festivals of the United States Officially took of on March 10th 2017.
Cameroonian born AFRIMA 2016 award winner, Naomi Achu, ventured to Austin, Texas for her performance slated for March 17th at Russian House; a show presented by ” Sounds from the World ” . As the only female artiste of the Afro-Pop genre of the official SXSW roster.
Among the list of Afro-Pop artist performing at SXSW this year were May D, Ayo Jay ( At Cedar Street Courtyard) , Mr Eazi, Maleek Berry Moelogo and more (at the Belmont).
Naomi Achu is one of the first AfroPop Artist from Cameroon to grace SXSW. Andy Allo; the Cameroon born Soul/Funk protege of the late Prince performed there last year 2016.
Naomi has often been asked how difficult it is the be in entertainment which is highly controlled and populated with men. Her response was “Yes, it can be challenging. But if I want something, I go for it. I don’t look at gender, race or country… I simply go for it”.
