Sunday’s referendum on Catalan independence will live long in the memory for a number of reasons, and following disturbances across the region Barcelona will close their doors and take part in a planned general strike on Tuesday.
The issue is a far reaching one and it has already impacted one of Los Cules’ LaLiga matches with Sunday’s clash with Las Palmas being played behind closed doors.
On Monday, the Blaugrana announced that they would adhere to the planned strike proposed by the Bureau for Democracy.
It means that nobody involved within the football club will work on Tuesday, not even the players not involved in international matches.
This decision was taken at a meeting of Barcelona’s board of directors early on Monday and a statement was then published by the club.
‘FC Barcelona adheres to the country-wide strike planned by the Bureau for Democracy, therefore, the club will remain closed on Tuesday,’ the statement read.
